Closing the Gap Between Vision & Growth

Coming Clean has long been a national leader in environmental health and justice—convening organizations, advancing policy, and supporting grassroots power. Friday partnered with Coming Clean to lead a strategic planning process that clarified what they do and how they create impact.

Coming Clean faced a dual imperative: navigate evolving funding streams while articulating a more compelling and cohesive reason for existing. With a relatively small core team stewarding a national network, they needed operational clarity, stronger membership engagement, and a sharper articulation of the unique value they bring to the environmental health and justice movement.
The path forward wasn’t simply new funding mechanisms. It was alignment. Clarifying the membership experience, defining how participation drives impact, and articulating a shared theory of change would allow Coming Clean to evolve sustainably. By making the routes between member engagement, strategy, and measurable outcomes explicit, the organization could strengthen both internal operations and external credibility.
Friday facilitated a comprehensive strategy and infrastructure build-out aligned to Coming Clean’s new impact model: Strengthen the Movement, Sustain Strategic Efforts, Create Opportunities. We designed and launched a new Member Guide, restructured their website and listserv tools for clearer engagement pathways, developed a Member Giving Program to diversify revenue, and built a progress monitoring system to track priorities over time.

“We knew our organization had to evolve if we were to continue to achieve our mission, and that meant deciding which of 1,000 possible directions to move in. Friday made that decision-making process incredibly clear.
